Multiple ISIS attacks on SDF checkpoints

On Sunday, a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighter lost his life after being shot in al- Hawayij town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor in a series of shoot attacks on SDF points believed to have been carried out by Islamic State (ISIS) cells.
On Sunday afternoon, a landmine exploded near a military vehicle belonging to the Deir ez-Zor Military Council on the road to al-Omar oil field, but no injuries were reported.
An SDF military source told PKK-affiliated press outlets that on Sunday morning, a number of centers and points belonging to the SDF were attacked, with the attacks believed to be carried out by ISIS.
With regular escapes from ISIS prisons in the area, and an insurgence of violence in the region, the SDF is left in a power vacuum in its Arab majority territory. As the local population’s discontentment with the SDF rises, their support to ISIS is believed to increase as well.
