Governor of Kurdistan: We Will Strengthen Border Residents’ Trade to Create Sustainable Economic Prosperity
The Governor of Kurdistan stated: “One of our key programs in the new year is the implementation of the border residents’ trade law, which can lay the groundwork for sustainable business prosperity in these regions.”
Iranian Kurdistan Human Rights Watch, as a domestic human rights organization, has repeatedly addressed the importance and necessity of serious attention from officials to the lack of development in the border and Kurdish-populated regions of Iran, and has also offered solutions in this regard. The revitalization of border markets, the establishment of stability and security in the business environment, and the influx of capital into these
regions and Kurdish cities can eliminate the unfortunate phenomenon of “Kolbari” (portering) as a false occupation, allowing the youth of these areas to engage in their desired businesses without worry, alongside their families and in their own cities.
In this context, and to fulfill its inherent mission and duty regarding the pursuit of the demands of citizens in the Kurdish-populated regions of Iran, and of course, to better and more closely familiarize them with their city and provincial officials, we have conducted an interview with “Arash Zarehtan Lahoni,” the Governor of Kurdistan, which follows.
Arash Zarehtan Lahoni, the Governor of Kurdistan, in an interview with a reporter from Iranian Kurdistan Human Rights Watch, referring to the economic situation of the people of this province, stated: “Fortunately, the economic conditions of the province are in good shape. We hope that in the new year, the projects we have started in the mountainous regions will make significant progress with serious and continuous follow-up.”
He further added: “One of our key programs in the new year is the implementation of the border residents’ trade law, which can lay the groundwork for sustainable business prosperity in these regions. For this purpose, special facilities have been considered, and a portion of the income generated from the implementation of this law will be directly allocated to the development and support of local businesses in the border areas.”
Emphasizing the importance of trade relations with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the Governor of Kurdistan clarified: “Our plan is to make good use of the economic capacities of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq for the development of these regions. In addition, we intend to provide suitable investment opportunities to boost economic prosperity and create sustainable employment.”
Zarehtan Lahoni concluded by noting: “With the implementation of these programs, we hope to further improve the economic situation of the province and provide a suitable platform for job creation, sustainable development, and increased welfare in the border regions.”
