Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh told reporters at a news conference on the actions of the Iranian Foreign Ministry and consulates in Erbil and Sulaimaniyah to hold Kurdish regional officials accountable for the unknown situation of missing Iranian Kurds who have been recruited by militant groups in the region, among them numerous minors.<\/p>\n

“As soon as our department learns about these missing loved ones, both in Tehran and in relation to the central government in Baghdad, and in relation to our consulates in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, we start talking about the situation of these missing loved ones,” he said.<\/p>\n

Khatibzadeh emphasized returning missing Iranian Kurds to their families is on the department’s agenda.<\/p>\n

He said: “Our actions in this regard, whether in face-to-face conversations with local officials, in the form of notes or statements, and of course by specifying committees to determine the fate of these people, are steps we have taken so far, but there has been no cooperation.”<\/p>\n

Khatibzadeh, stating that it is natural that the responsibility for this issue lies with the central government of Iraq, clarified: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has used all its power in this regard and we will do it again to determine the fate of these missing loved ones.”<\/p>\n
